Rau Village is located just outside of Moshi in the Kilimanjaro District of Tanzania. Opened in April of 2006, ‘Tuleeni’ now cares for 29 orphans and street children. The centre is run by Mama Faraji and feels far more like one big happy family than an institution. Tuleeni.org is operated by The Tuleeni Charitable Trust, an international charity registered in Bermuda Registration# 829

Tuleeni endeavors to provide a home, education and security to orphans and street children, to give them love and hope for the future and to give them the tools they need to fulfill their potential.

Tuleeni means ‘care for us’ in Swahili and that is exactly what Mama Faraji does. She shelters, feeds, clothes and educates these children. But she cannot do this alone. Tuleeni as a small orphanage do not receive government support. Education and shelter is expensive and more children come knocking all the time in need of a home. Education for these children is key to ending the cycle of poverty and one the main objectives for the orphanage.

Despite their troubled backgrounds and their hardships, the children of Tuleeni are some of the happiest children one has ever had the pleasure to meet. Their joy is nothing short of humbling. They are eager to learn and make the most of what they have.
